Local Lib Dems back community policing

But local policing is under threat from the Tory mayor's cuts

Local Lib Dems have been in talks with the Bayswater policing team to discuss residents' concerns.

Results from a recent survey of residents reveal that:

  • The vast majority of residents feel safe in Bayswater
  • People have confidence in the local policing team
  • The crimes most residents fear are vehicle crime, burglaries and street robberies.

Even though local policing is seen to be working, cuts to funding from London mayor Boris Johnson will mean that Bayswater ward's policing team will lose its full-time sergeant in September.

Local Lib Dem campaigner, Sue Baring, said "neighborhood policing works." Sue added "the Bayswater team has been doing a fantastic job already, despite not having a full team in place. However, I am worried that further cuts will cast doubt on the future of effective and

accountable policing in Bayswater."
