DISABLED CENTRE FACES CLOSURE

Bayswater Lib Dems have discovered that the local Conservative-run council has sent a letter to the disabled residents informing them that the Westminster Centre for Independent Living will close in September.
Staffing levels at the Centre, on Westbourne Park Road, have already been cut without regard to health and safety. Residents have not been informed where alternative services will be provided, without which they will be isolated at home.
The decision to close the Centre was taken without regard to the Council's legal obligations.
Furthermore, a petition to the Council from residents and carers has been ignored.
Local Lib Dem campaigner, John Coburn, says "The so-called consultation has left users of the Centre confused and upset, with great uncertainty as to what care they will receive in the future." John added "This is no way to treat vulnerable people and we would ask locals to make their views known to us as we step up our campaign."
