Westminster's Tory-controlled council is proposing to scrap the very successful 'City Guardians', paid officers who help to prevent anti-social behaviour.
Commenting, Naomi Smith, parliamentary candidate for Cities of London and Westminster, said:
"The City Guardians scheme has greatly improved the quality of life of Westminster residents. And yet, Tory-led Westminster council seems to have decided that they are no longer worth paying for."
Mark Blackburn, parliamentary candidate for Westminster North, added:
"The City Guardians have helped reduce petty crime and unlawful rubbish dumping. They have discouraged young people from drinking and taking drugs in our parks, gardens and squares. if elected in Westminster, the Liberal Democrats would do all they can to reverse this and keep the Guardians on our streets."
