Tesco Express on Lisson Grove
Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Martin Thompson is calling for a boycott of Tesco's Lisson Grove outlet until the retailer hands over the £100,000 it promised the local community.
When applying for approval to build its Tesco Express shop on the corner of Lisson Grove and Hayes Place, the multinational offered to donate £100,000 to the Church Street Local Area Renewal Partnership. The money was to be used to improve shop fronts on existing retail units in the area. Recent reports revealed that 18 months after approval was given, the money still had not been paid.
Commenting, Martin said:
"Tesco needs to pay the £100,000 it promised, and it should do that now. The company's sales are over £1bn every week. This is nothing to them, and everything to struggling local businesses.
"This is a David and Goliath struggle, but the important thing to remember is that David won."
