Thanks to the support of 100s of local residents, the farmers' market should remain in Marylebone for years to come
Westminster City Council has finally agreed the rules it will use to judge proposals for building on the site of the Moxon Street car park, home to Marylebone farmers' market.
The council has stressed the importance of the local market, and called for it either to remain on the site once it has been redeveloped or moved to a nearby location. The commitment to the market has been secured after months of campaigning by local Liberal Democrats.
A 631-signature petition in support of keeping the market on its present site was submitted to the council as a part of the party's campaign.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat campaigner Stuart Bonar said, "I hope that what we'll see on this site is a permanent home for Marylebone farmers' market - that's what residents clearly want.
"I am worried about the leeway the council is providing for the market to be moved to another nearby location, but local people can rest assured that the LibDems will be keeping a close eye on any and all proposals that are put forward."
