Street markets are such an important part of our local communities - says Liberal Democrat Caroline Pidgeon
Church Street Market may well be promoted in announcements on local buses, following pressure from Liberal Democrat London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon.
Caroline started to push the issue after a visit to the market during a by-election campaign last July.
A large number of bus routes serve the area, so the development has the potential to attract many new customers to the market. Local bus routes include numbers 6, 16, 27, 98, 139, 189 and 414.
Transport for London will be looking at introducing onboard announcements as part of their new 'iBus' system. Caroline has been pushing during the system's development for street markets to be included, and TfL has now confirmed that they will be looking at introducing them for regular street markets.
Commenting, Caroline said, "Street markets are such an important part of our local communities and need to be supported. Announcing them on buses will help attract visitors and keep our markets, such as Church Street, vibrant and alive."
