Vince Cable and the LibDems would kickstart the economy and help families on low and middle incomes
The Liberal Democrats are publishing a package of proposals designed to help people left struggling by the credit crunch. This comes as local LibDem campaigner Sue Baring condemns Labour's proposals to tackle the slowdown in the economy as "too little too late".
The Liberal Democrat measures include tax cuts for low and middle income households, stopping unnecessary repossessions, action to cut energy bills and moves to stop reckless banks jeopardising economic security.
Commenting, Sue Baring, who is the Liberal Democrat candidate in the upcoming Lancaster Gate council by-election, said:
"Gordon Brown's response to the economic crisis we are in has been too little too late.
"Here in Westminster and right across Britain individuals are struggling with bills and prices shooting up, and wages that aren't keeping pace.
"If Labour truly wants to give people on low and middle incomes some real help then he should cut their taxes. That would be a real shot in the arm for the economy.
"The Liberal Democrats have consistently called for action to cut utility bills, tackle reckless behaviour by banks and deliver more help for those facing the terrible threat of having their homes repossessed. If Gordon Brown had acted when we first raised these issues we would not be in the deep mess we are in now."
