There is clear support for keeping Marylebone Farmers' Market where it is.
A 631-signature petition in support of Marylebone Farmers' Market has been submitted to Westminster City Council's consultation on the future of Moxon Street car park, the site of the market.
The council is consulting on the future of the car park and hopes to build a new adult education centre on the site. Since 2003, the car park, just behind Marylebone High Street, has been home to the weekly farmers' market, which operates every Sunday between 10am and 2pm.
Commenting, Marylebone resident and Liberal Democrat campaigner Stuart Bonar said, "I am really pleased by the level of support our local farmers' market has received."
He continued, "Over 600 people have signed the petition I started just a few weeks ago. I hope that their voices will be listened to by the council and that the market's future will be secured in its current location.
"What is so important about that is the fact that Moxon Street, which runs along one side of the site, is home to La Fromagerie and The Ginger Pig, which are absolutely first-class shops. A few steps away also is Marylebone High Street, with its great shops too.
"The two complement each other. I am sure that the market does well because it is so near these excellent shops, and I believe that the shops and the whole high street does well on the Sunday thanks to the market.
"Marylebone Farmers' Market must stay exactly where it is."
