Pages & pages of petition signatures have already been returned, with more to come
Three hundred people have now signed the Liberal Democrats' petition to save Marylebone Farmers' Market, with new signatures coming in all the time.
The petition is open to sign online at http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/farmersmarket and petition forms can be printed off from http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/petition/655
The weekly farmers' market, held each Sunday between 10am and 2pm in the car park behind Marylebone High Street, opened in 2003, and is popular with local residents as well as people from further afield.
Commenting, Marylebone resident and Liberal Democrat campaigner Stuart Bonar said, "I love the market. It is good for farmers, local residents and the area as a whole. The market brings the entire area to life on a Sunday lunchtime.
"People are sending in comments along with their signatures, and it is crystal clear that there are strong feelings about this."
The Council is consulting on the future of the car park site, and is proposing a new adult education centre is built there.
Stuart continued, "This is a big site. There is plenty of room for a new adult education centre, whilst leaving space for the farmers' market to continue. What's important here is keeping the farmers' market in its present location. Messing around with it and trying to kick it out and locate it elsewhere isn't good enough. It is perfectly placed right now next to some absolutely first-class food outlets selling some top-quality produce."
The original deadline for people to voice their views on the issue was 18th August, but this has now been extended to 8th September because of a mistake alerting local residents to the plans.
Stuart added, "We now have an extra couple of weeks. Let's see how many signatures we can get. The more we have, the louder our call to save Marylebone Farmers' Market
