Martin's campaign in the Church Street by-election is gathering pace
Baroness Sarah Ludford, the capital's Liberal Democrat Euro-MP, visited Church Street on Saturday 12th July to campaign for Martin Thompson in the council by-election this Thursday.
Martin's campaign is gathering pace, with support coming in from all levels. In addition to a visit by an MEP, he has been endorsed by former LibDem leader the Rt Hon Charles Kennedy MP and his work to promote Church Street Market is being taken forward by LibDem London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon.
Speaking during Sarah's visit, Martin said, "On the doorstep I am hearing that people do not like the fact that the other two candidates do not live locally. The Conservative does not even live in Westminster!
"I am meeting many people who signed my petition last year against the building of yet another new supermarket in our area. They know that I campaign for this area, and have been doing so for a long time.
"What I am offering voters is that I will be a local and more independent voice on the council. I will not be just another councillor from one of the old parties."
The by-election will be held this Thursday, with polling stations open from 7am until 10pm.
