The needs of the Church Street Market are being raised by LibDem London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon
Church Street by-election candidate Martin Thompson's call for street markets to be promoted in station and stop announcements on London's Tube trains and buses is being raised with Transport for London by Liberal Democrat London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon.
Caroline, whose London-wide constituency includes Church Street ward, has lodged a member's enquiry with the transport body asking if street markets could be named in onboard announcements to passengers.
Commenting, the LibDem candidate in the Church Street by-election, Martin Thompson, said, "It's really good news for local people that Caroline is raising this with Transport for London. If these announcements could be brought in then passengers on buses stopping on the Edgware Road, and Tube passengers pulling into Edgware Road station on the Bakerloo line could be told that Church Street Market is only a stone's throw away.
"Last year, over 3.5 million passengers entered or exited the Tube network at that station. That is so many potential customers for Church Street Market. It's a perfect opportunity to promote it.
"The market brings real life to our area. I will continue to work hard to make sure that it has a bright future."
The by-election in Westminster council's Church Street ward will be held on Thursday 24th July. Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm.
