Stuart, in Weymouth Mews, delivering leaflets about the threat to the farmers' market
Hundreds of leaflets are being delivered to residents in Marylebone to let them know about the threat to the area's weekly farmers' market and to encourage them to sign a petition to save it.
The leaflets, distributed by the local Liberal Democrats, explain that the council is consulting on the future of the Moxon Street car park site, home to the market. It goes on to explain that the proposed development on the site could result in the market's closure.
Local Liberal Democrats are keen for local people who support the market to speak out now, during the consultation, before it is too late.
Commenting, local LibDem campaigner Stuart Bonar, a Marylebone resident who uses the market regularly, said, "We have had hundreds of leaflets printed, and we are delivering them to as many local residents as we can. It is important that they know about the risk to the local farmers' market.
"Marylebone is, quite simply, a delight. That's why so many people from near and far come to Marylebone every Sunday to visit the market. Those of us lucky enough actually to live here need to protect what makes it special."
The council's consultation period lasts until 18th August. Anyone wanting to support the market can sign the petition online at http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/farmersmarket
