Martin Thompson outside Lisson Grove post office, where the closure notice has already been placed in the window
Today's official confirmation that post offices in Lisson Grove, Harrow Road, and Leinster Terrace will close for good has been condemned as "a body blow" by local Liberal Democrats.
A fourth threatened Westminster post office, in Formosa Street, Maida Vale, has received a stay of execution, with the consultation period on its status extended to the end of this month.
Commenting, local LibDem campaigner Martin Thompson, who recently championed Lisson Grove's independent shops against the proposed new Tesco, said:
"abour's post office closure programme will be a body blow for our local communities. Many people rely on their local post office for a whole range of services and assistance.
"I feel the loss of the post office on Lisson Grove most acutely. Not only do I live locally, so it is my own nearest post office, but it comes so hard on the heels of the Conservative-run council giving the green light to the new Tesco on Lisson Grove.
"I fear that the forthcoming appearance of the supermarket giant will be seriously bad news for the local independent shops on Lisson Grove, Church Street, and the surrounding area.
"Given the looming threat of Tesco, this latest blow is the last thing the area needs."
Across London, the closure of 155 of the capital's 850 post office branches has now been confirmed.
