Support the local LibDem campaign to save Westminster's threatened post offices, like this one on Lisson Grove
Local Liberal Democrat campaigners are launching a petition to save the four Westminster post offices named today as under threat of closure. The Liberal Democrats' petition will be delivered to households in the affected areas, and will be presented to 10 Downing Street by LibDem mayoral hopeful Brian Paddick.
The four post offices facing the axe are at 12 Formosa Street, 272 Harrow Road, 31 Leinster Terrace, and 37 Lisson Grove. They are amongst the 169 London post offices also named for closure today [Tuesday 19th February 2008].
Commenting, local LibDem Martin Thompson said, "Post Office bigwigs seem to have forgotten that people actually live here in central London. We need services, like post offices. The Liberal Democrats will fight these closures, just as we have fought to save post offices right across the country.
LibDem mayoral candidate Brian Paddick added, "Post offices are often the heart of a local community and we must all do our utmost to preserve them.
"The trouble with economic arguments is that they leave people out of the equation and they are the most important part.
"Many people rely on a local post office, and to close 20% of London's post offices just shows a complete disregard for the needs of the local community."
