Local LibDem Martin Thompson sends a second letter to Mark Field MP to try to get him to support local independent shops
Local LibDem campaigner Martin Thompson has written a second time to Conservative MP for the Cities of London & Westminster, Mark Field, asking him to back the campaign to save local independent shops in Marylebone.
Supermarket giant Tesco has told residents that it plans to open a new shop on the corner of Lisson Grove and Hayes Place. This would be the 10th Tesco within a one-mile radius.
Despite the clear concerns of local shopkeepers and the 1,100 local people who have signed Martin's petition, MP Mark Field ignored a letter of 27th April in which Martin asked him for his support. Martin has now had to send a second letter to the MP in an attempt to get a reply.
Commenting, Martin said, "I am thoroughly dismayed that Mark Field has not replied to my original letter, sent in April. In fact, it's now been over a week since I sent this second letter, and still no reply.
"I am one of his constituents and I am writing to him about an important issue in his constituency. What is more, I have collected a 1,100-signature petition, and many of the people who signed are his constituents. Somehow however we don't seem to matter.
"Local people are getting a very shoddy service from this lacklustre MP."
