Conservative: 1,334 votes / 65.2% (DOWN 4.9%)
Independent: 78 votes / 3.8% (did not stand last time)
Labour: 280 votes / 13.7% (DOWN 1.1%)
The result in the by-election in Marylebone High Street ward:
Stuart Bonar (Liberal Democrat): 258 votes / 16.5% (UP 1.1%)
UK Independence Party: 40 votes / 2.6% (did not stand last time)
Conservative: 1,041 votes / 66.7% (DOWN 3.3%)
Labour: 222 votes / 14.2% (DOWN 0.4%)
Responding to the Abbey Road result, Liberal Democrat candidate Mark Blackburn said:
"The LibDem vote was up on the last time this ward was contested. I thank every local resident who backed me. Both Labour and the Conservatives were down. The swing was from the Tories to the LibDems. I am very pleased with that.
"I congratulate Lindsey Hall on her victory. I hope she serves the people of Abbey Road ward well."
Commenting on the result in Marylebone High Street ward, LibDem candidate Stuart Bonar said:
"As was the case in the other by-election, the LibDems were the only party to gain votes. The Tories and Labour lost votes. Again, just like the other by-election, the LibDems finished in second place - clearly ahead of Labour.
"I want to say 'thank you' to every Liberal Democrat voter in Marylebone High Street ward. I appreciate their support.
"I congratulated the new Conservative councillor after his victory had been declared. I wish him luck in his new role. I also managed to speak with the Labour candidate, Dave Rowntree. He seemed a nice chap, and I wish him well too."
Chair of the Westminster and City of London Liberal Democrats, Jo Hayes, added, "We are seeing the Liberal Democrats improve their vote here in Westminster. We made advances across Westminster in last year's local elections, and in these two by-elections it was the LibDem candidates who were on the up. Both Labour and Conservative support fell. In both by-elections, Labour faded away.
"Westminster LibDems are a growing political force across the borough. I look forward to future success."
